“The Golden Days”, no work, college was whatevs, I wanted to be a “professional skateboard photographer, and I ate dollar slice everyday, with the occasional Chipotle splurge. Probably the best summer ever in nyc.
Freeze Frames with JP Blair

After months, possibly years of non stop nagging for freeze frames from JP Blair, he finally caved and gave me some. Enjoy a handful of screen grabs from JP’s upcoming skate video, “Untitled”. Theres no name for it yet, so Im just calling it “Untitled”. Its going to be worth the 6 year wait.

Some polaroids from th other night from the Ari Marcopoulos “Dark Sun” Exhibition at Bowery Stadium. Enjoy.

Go Skate Day NYC
It was complete chaos, people were genuinely scared. People running off the streets and sidewalks to find safety on their stoops, traffic at a stand still, bikers and pedestrians getting frustrated. Taking to the streets from the LES park and crossing over the Williamsburg Bridge felt just like the opening scene to “Hot Chocolate“. Slowly coming around a corner to take the bridge for ourselves. No one else was getting on or off it, and if you were already on it, you weren’t moving. Arriving at McCarren Park, everyone was greeted by at least three or four Red Bulls with their name on it. Everyone now charged up by the Red Bull, were all eager to start up the long ollie contest. With minuets left on the permit for the day, they stepped it up to the previous record of 21 boards. Try after try people failed, then Louis stepped it up and after giving it a few go’s landed the ollie taking home the 1K prize. Now seconds left on the permit, the 5boro truck pulled up and unloaded the massive amount product put up by CCS, 5Boro, Volcom, and Vans. All in all it was a pretty fun day. Big thanks to Steve Rodriguez and all the sponsors that made the day possible.
One Week
I tried shooting a whole role of film last week. It was not that easy though. Tried bringing my camera where ever I went. So here is a week through my lens. Enjoy

A Look Back: Yaje Popson

I moved to New York City in the fall of 2006, and not knowing anyone or anything about this modern metropolis I would just skate around the streets till all hours, trying to learn how to navigate the gigantic grid. For majority of my first semester I just stuck around the area from 14th street to 23rd street, mostly in the back or front of Union Square depending on how crowded the front was. That all changed the day I met Brandon Bramhall. Brandon enlightened me with Quartersnacks, my guide to skating the streets of NYC. He took me to the LES park for the first time, and I was hooked on it for about six months solid. Within the first couple times going there, I met a young Yaje Popson. Yaje was probably about 14 or 15 in this photo, which also happened to be the first day I met him. I remember him telling me about how he had accidentally gotten hit in the face by Pedro somewhere. The reason for the black eye in the photo of course. This was way before I had a digital camera, flashes, or a fisheye. I didn’t even own a camera at the time. It was a rental from school. I remember seeing footy of him in the old Big Apple throwaway clips and promos. Crazy to see him go from a little kid at LES to one of the illest skaters out there. Below is a sequence I shot of him a year or so ago at the Banks before they shut down. Enjoy the photo.
Sunday in the Bronx

Went to the BX with some homeys today. First stop was the bump to bar at the car repair shop. Then went over to the Bronx court house. After spending a little time there we decided to cruise around and look for spots. long day, but was was pretty chill, found some stuff that I had never seen before. Ended the night with some proper snacking and about 3 hours of Seinfeld.

Dela trying to get over last night. Chomping on a Turkey sandwich.

Yaje almost got bodied.

Like a Bowse.

Oh… yeah… this thing. Next

Found this thing, pretty gnarly.

Westgate, hit me up if your trying to get enders.
A Fine Spring Saturday

Went out to shoot the Maloof contest at Astoria Park today. It was alright, got to see a lot of people, but complete chaos for anyone trying to skate. Then got some amazing lunch from Five Leaves in Brooklyn with Mr. Marino and cruised over the waste my day away at Tompkins. Day well spent.

Bellerud broke a brand new board, no surprise here. Just another day in the life of BBC member.

Yaje Is back from LA. Already got some num nums with him. Straight to business. And Dan was creeping on him hard.

As the day was coming to an end Rob showed up, and this moment turned into this…….

At the moment they were listening to George Harrison’s “Ive got my mind set on you”
